South America is known as the continent of birds and Guyana is no exception. To date there are well over 800 different species of birds that have been recorded in Guyana. Some iconic species include Harpy Eagle, Sun Parakeet, Capuchin Bird, Crimson Fruit Crow, White Bell Bird, Oil Bird, Zig-Zag Heron, Fasciated Tiger Heron, Guianian Cock of the Rock, Wing Banded Wren, White Winged Potoo, Crestless Curassow, and Crested Eagle, just to name a few. Guyana is also rich in Cotingas and Manakins and has a healthy list of Guyana shield endemics.

Why bird watch with us?

We offer birding tours and expeditions that adventure into remote and rarely visited Rupununi locations, largely unchartered territory where you might discover some unusual gems, possibly even new country records. Birding in remote locations also offers a greater sense of adventure as well as better wildlife viewing opportunities.

Mapari Wilderness Camp and Corona Falls are excellent locations for birders. Trained and experienced bird guides will take you through the forest trails and assist you in locating birds. Some of our adventure birding activities include quiet river drifts, at dawn and dusk, hikes on forest trails, as well as night drifts looking for nocturnal species such as Potoos, Owls, and Sleeping Birds etc. Guyana Truly Wild has guided ornithological researchers such as the Smithsonian Institute. Check our bird list for more in depth information.

In addition to Mapari Wilderness Camp and Corona Falls, we also offer custom built birding expeditions into other locations within the region. Please contact us for more information.
